Steam car extravaganza (c. 1874)

“Calliope! The wonderful Operonicon or Steam Car of the Muses, as it appears in the gorgeous street pagent [sic] of the Great European Zoological Association!”

One example of how a steam car can be decidedly removed from anything “steampunk”! Also, note the horses. Not enough power coming from the steam engine? Perhaps. I recall, however, that some early steam cars used horses merely for aesthetic purposes, such as not to freak out horses pulling “regular” carriages.
